Two Arrested for Cutting Nepal Telecom Cable in Jhapa

Jhapa. Police have arrested two people red-handed while cutting Nepal Telecom's cable wire in Mechinagar, Jhapa. They were arrested while stealing wire from a pole located in front of Laxmi Department Store at Charali Bazaar, Ward No. 13 of Mechinagar Municipality, Jhapa, under Koshi Province. The police team on regular patrol from Charali Police Post found them cutting Nepal Telecom's cable while climbing the pole at around 4:30 AM on Monday. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sangam Sherpa, 23, residing in Ward No. 6 of Mechinagar Municipality, Jhapa, and Maniraj Rajbanshi, 21, residing in Ward No. 15 of the same municipality. Police have recovered materials used in the theft and cut wire from their possession. Approximately 35 meters of Nepal Telecom cable wire, 3 hacksaw blades used for cutting wire, and 1 wire cutter were recovered from the scene, according to the police. Both individuals taken into custody by the patrol team were initially brought to Charali Police Post. They were then handed over to the Area Police Office, Dhulabari, for further legal action and investigation. A case has been registered against both arrested youths under the offense of theft as per the Muluki Criminal Code, 2074. According to the acting information officer of the District Police Office, Jhapa, and Police Inspector Suman Baniya, a 5-day remand has been obtained from the Jhapa District Court to further investigate Sherpa and Rajbanshi.
