Environmentalist Criticizes PM Balen Shah's Actions

Kathmandu. Environmentalist Dr. Jagat BK has expressed strong disagreement targeting some of the recent steps and tendencies of Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen). BK, who has supported and sympathized with many of Balen's previous decisions, has expressed concern that the balance of power between state institutions is being forgotten recently.

Making his views public through social media, Dr. BK emphasized that the state machinery should operate based on legal procedures, constitutional dignity, and institutional balance. He believes it is fatal for democracy if the executive power tries to present an independent and impartial constitutional body like the Supreme Court as a structure that functions under its influence or favor.

'Law Must Be Above Individuals'

Dr. BK said, 'The beauty of democracy is that no individual, position, or power is above the law. But now, the executive seems to consider itself supreme. This is a serious attack on the balance of power of the state.'

He has termed the mentality of trying to make individuals stronger than institutions as the 'most dangerous tendency' since the Rana regime. Mentioning that individuals are temporary and institutions are permanent in a parliamentary system of governance, Dr. BK stated that only public awareness can keep democracy in the right direction.

He said, 'Criticism is not enmity; it is responsible public awareness that keeps democracy in the right direction. No one needs to be a hornet here, nor should blind followers come to attack.'
