Dismissed Civil Servant Organizations Complain to ILO

Kathmandu. Dismissed civil servant organizations have appealed to the International Labour Organization (ILO). They have filed a complaint at the main office in Geneva, Switzerland, stating that their dismissal is unconstitutional and against international conventions.

All trade union organizations active in Nepal have participated in the complaint, informed Bhavani Dahal, chairperson of the dissolved Nepal Civil Service Organization.

The government had issued some ordinances last week, completely banning trade union activities in any government body. They argue that since Nepal is a party to the ILO convention, it is not permissible to bring laws to stop trade union activities within offices.

Following the employees' complaint, the ILO's Nepal office has called representatives of all organizations for further discussion. Dahal said that the government has also been informed about this through correspondence.
