C. Joseph Vijay Sworn in as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ending Dravidian Party Rule

New Delhi. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President C. Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday. This ends the nearly 6-decade-long rule of the two major Dravidian parties DMK and AIADMK. 

Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vijay on Sunday. Vijay took the oath of office at 10 am at Nehru Stadium in Chennai. Along with some senior leaders of TVK, 9 others also took the oath as ministers.

Vijay will lead the coalition government with the support of Congress. The Governor has also directed Vijay to prove his majority in the assembly on or before May 13. The nine ministers sworn in are 'Bussy' N. Anand, Adhav Arjun, K.G. Arunkumar, K.A. Sengottaiyan, P. Venkataramanan, C.T.R. Nirmalkumar, A. Rajamohan, T.K. Prabhu, and S. Keerthana.

Rahul Gandhi and many other prominent leaders were present at the swearing-in ceremony. TVK has 120 MLAs. Vijay now has the support of 120 MLAs. 118 MLAs are required to prove a majority in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. IUML has announced its unconditional support to Vijay's party. Two each from both parties

Vijay submitted a letter of support from 120 MLAs to Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi on Saturday evening. Following this, the Governor gave permission to Vijay's party TVK to form the government in Tamil Nadu. This ends four days of political uncertainty.
