One Prisoner Among Escaped Detainees Apprehended in Chitwan

Chitwan. One among the prisoners who escaped from the Chitwan Prison Office has been apprehended by the police. The arrested individual is an Indian national. A total of eleven Indian citizens were held in this prison and had escaped. He has been brought here after being arrested from Birgunj.

According to the head of the office, Rabindra Prasad Dhungana, 70-year-old Sushila Devi, also known as Rubeda Khatun, who was serving a sentence for a drug offense, has been apprehended and brought in. During a demonstration of the jailbreak, 743 inmates, including four minors, escaped from the prison on the 25th of Bhadra. Of these, 640 inmates have returned so far. He stated that 103 are still yet to return.

He informed that many of those who are still unaccounted for are involved in drug-related offenses and rape cases. Among those who are absconding are also individuals involved in poaching of the rare one-horned rhinoceros. The Prison Office had issued a notice on the 20th of Ashoj for individuals to contact the prison office.

It has been stated that if they do not contact within the time specified by the prison, action will be taken according to the Prison Act 2079 and prevailing laws. He said that individuals found to be hiding or harboring escaped prisoners will be considered offenders and prosecuted.
