Two Drones from Russia Crash in Latvia

Riga. Latvia's army has stated that two drones that came from Russia entered its territory and crashed. According to the news agency Reuters, one of those drones fell on an oil storage center in Rezekne. The area is about 40 kilometers away from the Russian border.

According to the government TV channel LSM, quoting the police, although there was a fire at the scene, the fire had already been extinguished by the time the fire brigade arrived. After the incident, Latvian authorities issued a drone alert notice to residents in areas bordering Russia at 4:09 AM on Thursday, urging them to stay indoors.

The Rezekne municipality has stated that all schools have been closed for Thursday. Earlier, at the end of March, some drones that took off from Ukraine had fallen in Latvia and neighboring countries Estonia and Lithuania. One of those drones had crashed into the chimney of a local power plant, while another fell into a frozen lake and exploded.

It was estimated that those drones were sent to attack military targets within Russia. All three Baltic countries had clarified in April that they would not allow their land or airspace to be used for drone attacks against Russia.
