Gagan Thapa Directs Leadership Development Program for Congress Leaders

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has directed to bring a special leadership development program to make leaders and cadres who want to go to various responsibilities and positions in the state from the party capable and competent. He gave this instruction while addressing the first meeting of the Central Policy, Research and Training Academy at the party's central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur on Wednesday. President Thapa expressed the view that the 'Leadership Academy' envisioned by Congress should now be operated through this academy itself, not separately. Informing that its Terms of Reference (TOR) have also been passed by the central committee, he said that it is necessary to train and prepare friends who are interested in holding state responsibilities in advance. Emphasizing the need to make the training system within the party modern and technology-friendly, he said that the party members should be made ideologically strong. He suggested to the academy to do concrete policy work on what alternatives can be there to solve the problems, saying that it is not enough to just oppose the government on public interest issues like the current inflation. Mentioning the context of a large number of new members joining the party, he clarified that the first priority should be to provide systematic training on the history, ideology, principles, and values of Congress to those new generations. Presenting the plan to completely transform the party's training program into a digital medium, President Thapa said, 'Many new members have joined the party now. The academy should make special plans for them. Everything can be done virtually now. My desire is to connect those who have taken active membership of Congress to virtual meetings through their Congress ID. The compulsion to be physically present for training like before is no longer there.' During his address, he claimed that good governance is the main agenda of the Nepali Congress and clarified that the party will adopt a policy of zero tolerance towards corruption. He said that the academy should also work seriously on how to translate this commitment into the party's policy and behavior. Similarly, speaking in the context of election preparations, President Thapa urged the entire party ranks to start internal homework and preparations targeting the local level elections to be held in 2084 BS.
