Man Arrested for Allegedly Defrauding Women by Posing as US Army Personnel on Social Media

Kathmandu. Police have arrested a young man on charges of defrauding women by luring them through social media, claiming to be serving in the US Army. The arrested individual is 34-year-old Bheshraj Wagle, a resident of Biruwa Rural Municipality-2, Syangja.

The accused targeted women, initiating contact via TikTok and then moving to WhatsApp, to perpetrate fraud, SP Manohar Bhatta of the Valley Crime Investigation Office told Ratopati. He would first establish acquaintance through TikTok and then communicate with women via WhatsApp using foreign numbers to lure them.

During conversations, he would give false assurances, claiming to be a US Army soldier currently on leave in Nepal. Police investigation revealed that he would then defraud the victimized women by demanding money, fabricating excuses such as needing to pay land tax in Nepal but having a 'limit' (exceeded transaction ceiling) on his bank account.

In his fraudulent activities, he concealed his real name and used the alias Bishal Thapa Chhetri. SP Bhatta stated that Wagle was arrested from Chandragiri on Chaitra 3. Wagle has been sent to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, for necessary legal action.
