Iranian President Confirms Death of Intelligence Minister Khatib in Attack

Tehran. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has confirmed the killing of his Intelligence Minister, Esmail Khatib. President Pezeshkian confirmed this on Wednesday.

President Pezeshkian confirmed the death of Minister Khatib via the social media platform X.

President Pezeshkian stated: 'My dear colleague Esmail Khatib, Ali Larijani, and Aziz Nasirzadeh have been cowardly assassinated, and the deaths of some members of their families have deeply saddened us.'

He further wrote: 'I express my deep condolences to the people of Iran for the martyrdom of two cabinet members, the Secretary of the Shura Council, and military and Basij commanders.'

Israel had claimed that Khatib was killed in an airstrike on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) released further details regarding the killing of Minister Khatib. The IDF stated that this attack was a 'targeted strike' in Tehran.

The deaths of Iran's top security official Larijani and Defense Minister Nasirzadeh had already been confirmed.
