Lalitpur Celebrates Traditional 'Single Horse Jatra' on Ghode Jatra Occasion

Lalitpur. On the occasion of Ghode Jatra, the traditional 'Ekala Ghode Jatra' (Single Horse Jatra) was celebrated in the Patan area of Lalitpur. Locals celebrated the festival by racing a horse from Patan Durbar Square (Mulchowk) to Balkumari on Wednesday.

The Jatra, which started from the Mulchowk of Patan Durbar Square, proceeded through Olkhu, Neut, Lohal, Bhol Ganesh, and reached Balkumari. The ritual is considered complete after the horse circles the temple area near Balkumari three times.

This Ghode Jatra celebrated in Lalitpur is considered different from others in the valley. Unlike Kathmandu, where many horses are used, the tradition here involves parading only one horse, which is called 'Ekala Ghode Jatra'.
