Supreme Court Schedules Hearing on Corruption Case Involving Former Minister Ranjita Shrestha

Kathmandu. The hearing for the corruption case related to the Lichhibari bribe scandal involving former minister Ranjita Shrestha has been scheduled at the Supreme Court.

The case has been listed for hearing before a joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Hari Prasad Phuyal and Shrikanta Paudel.

The Special Court had ordered Shrestha to be released on a bail of 5 lakh rupees. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had appealed to the Supreme Court, demanding that Shrestha be kept in custody during the trial proceedings.

On Falgun 10, the Special Court had ordered the release of the defendant Ranjita Shrestha on a bail of 5 lakh rupees (interim custody) in the corruption case where the claimed amount was 78 lakh rupees. The CIAA claimed that this 5 lakh bail order was 'improper' (not in accordance with the law).

The CIAA had filed a charge sheet at the Special Court on Ashoj 22, 2082, claiming a total amount of 78 lakh rupees in this corruption case, in which Shrestha was also implicated.
