Series of Drone and Rocket Attacks Target US Embassy in Baghdad Amid Escalating Regional Tensions

Baghdad. A series of drone and rocket attacks targeted the US Embassy in Iraq's capital, Baghdad, early Tuesday morning. According to Reuters and AFP news agencies, this is the most intense and severe attack since the war began between Iran and Israel. Iraqi security sources have described it as the most ferocious assault to date.

Approximately six hours before the attack, the embassy had issued a new security alert for American citizens in Iraq. The warning mentioned that Iran-backed armed groups could repeatedly attack the highly secure International Zone in Baghdad. Indeed, within a few hours, dozens of rockets and at least five drones targeted the embassy.

The escalating tension between Iran and the US has had a direct impact on Iraq recently. As Iran warns of retaliation against neighboring countries and US military bases, this attack in Baghdad has further complicated the security situation in West Asia. US officials have not yet released any details regarding casualties.
