US Embassy Urges American Citizens to Leave Iraq Immediately Amid Heightened Security Risks

Washington D.C. -- The United States has told its citizens to leave Iraq immediately. The US Embassy in Iraq urged American citizens present in Iraq to "leave the country immediately." The embassy issued a warning on social media, stating that security risks from Iran-linked groups have increased.

According to the embassy, armed groups connected to Iran pose a significant threat to public safety in Iraq. It was also stated that there have been previous attacks targeting American citizens, US interests, and critical infrastructure.

The warning advised American citizens who might be considering staying in Iraq to reconsider their decision. Furthermore, due to the current security situation, they were urged not to approach the US Embassy in Baghdad or the Consulate General in Erbil.

The embassy compound was also affected by an attack that occurred on Saturday. Security alertness in the region has been further increased following that incident. According to the embassy, the risk of rocket, drone, and mortar attacks in Iraq's airspace is high, so American citizens have been advised to leave the country as soon as possible.
