Anti-Graft Body Files Corruption Case Against Local Government Employee for Using Fake Certificates

Kathmandu. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against an employee of Devghat Rural Municipality in Tanahun on charges of entering government service using fake educational certificates.

The CIAA filed the charge sheet against Hombahadur Bharti, who worked as a Social Mobilizer, Sanitation Supervisor, and Catalyst Coordinator at Devghat Rural Municipality, at the Special Court in Kathmandu on Thursday.

CIAA investigation revealed that Bharti submitted a forged certificate with the intention of holding various positions in the Devghat Rural Municipality office and obtaining illegal benefits and facilities in return. Commission Spokesperson Suresh Neupane informed that he had presented a fake educational qualification certificate with 'S.No. 0252431M', claiming to have passed SLC in the first division in 1999 (2055 BS). It has been confirmed that he received the status and facilities of a civil servant based on that certificate.

Bharti's action is deemed an offense under Section 16 (1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059. Accordingly, the CIAA has initiated legal proceedings demanding imprisonment and a fine as per the same Act. 

Since obtaining benefits by submitting false details in government service is considered a heinous crime, the maximum penalty has been sought against him.
