Azerbaijan Aims to Significantly Boost Gas Production, Expand Renewable Energy Capacity

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated on Wednesday that Azerbaijan aims to increase its gas production by at least 10 billion cubic meters within the next two to three years. According to the official website of the President, Aliyev reminded during a joint press conference with European Council President Charles Michel that Azerbaijan plans to increase gas production this year.

Aliyev also stated that Azerbaijan aims to prepare 6 to 8 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity for export within five to six years. Emphasizing Azerbaijan's growing role in European energy security, Aliyev mentioned that 10 member states of the European Union are currently receiving gas from Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani President also noted that the European Union accounted for half of the country's total trade in January, making the bloc the country's main trading partner.
