Contrasting Fates: Politician Deepak Manange Released from Prison Just Days After Rival Chakre Milan Suffers Electoral Defeat

Pokhara. While Deepak Manange, also known as Rajeev Gurung, was active in politics, Milan Gurung, alias Chakre Milan, was not very visible. In the previous election, when Manange was unanimously elected to the Provincial Assembly from Manang, Chakre was trying to become a candidate for the House of Representatives from Gorkha.

However, he could not become a candidate due to technical reasons. Manange won the election and became a minister multiple times. Manange went to jail due to a homicide case. In the meantime, Chakre became more active in politics and became a candidate from Gorkha 2. Chakre, who contested the election after taking a ticket from UML, suffered a severe defeat.

Coincidentally, just two days after Chakre lost the election, Manange, who was jailed, was released from prison after completing his sentence. Manange was convicted and jailed for allegedly assaulting Chakre. He was released from Dillibazar Prison on Wednesday.

Manange was sentenced to 5 years in prison for the charge of attacking someone with a Khukuri in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu, on Baisakh 31, 2061 BS. He completed the remaining 1 year and 4 months of his sentence and was released on Wednesday. He had already served 2 years and 8 months in prison on previous occasions. He was most recently arrested on Kartik 27, 2081 BS.

He was granted a 20 percent remission on his sentence. Chakre, on the other hand, lost the election with his bail money also being forfeited. He received 3,000 votes from Gorkha 2. Rabindra Burhalakoti of RSP, who won the election here, received 26,660 votes.
