Forest Minister plants one of the oldest tree species

Kathmandu –Minister for Forest and Environment, Shakti Bahadur Basnet, has called for the cooperation of all the stakeholders to prevent the increasing environmental pollution in Nepal.
At a tree planting programme held within the park of the Plant Resources Department in Godavari, Minister Basnet said Godvari has been serving as the conservation area for plant resources.
On the occasion, the minister divulged government's plan to make an announcement of Nepal Healthy Environment Campaign, 2075 on June 5. He said the government would formulate strict laws for protection of wildlife heritage and clean air.
Lawmaker Navaraj Silwal underlined the need for embracing the trend of protecting environment as our everyday behaviour.
Department of Plant Resources, Director General Sanjeev Kumar Rai said the department has been protecting the endangered plants and developing the Godavari Park for pleasure derived from green scenery.
Minister Basnet planted the rare Ginkgo Biloba's tree sapling which is one of the oldest species in the world. The tree is believed to have existed almost 270 million years ago during the era of dinosaurs.
