Trump executive order halts three USAID programs in Nepal

Kathmandu, February 24 — Three USAID programs in Nepal have been suspended due to an executive order issued by U.S. President Donald Trump.

On Monday, the Ministry of Finance released a press statement confirming that the government’s planned programs related to biodiversity, provincial and local governance strengthening, and climate resilient municipal services have been halted.

According to the Ministry of Finance, these three programs were still in the design phase.

Ministry spokesperson Shyam Prasad Bhattarai clarified that no agreements had been finalized for the programs, and thus no assistance had been received.

Since 1951, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has been providing grant assistance and implementing various programs in Nepal.
