Education Minister pledges payment to teachers on monthly-basis

Kathmandu, December 18 — Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Bidya Bhattarai, has said local levels have been already instructed to ensure monthly allocation of teachers' remuneration.

During discussions on the 'School Education Bill-2080 BS' in a meeting of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee, the House of Representatives today, the Minister pledged to manage the allocations of teachers' salary regularly on a monthly basis.

"We have received complaints that 39 local levels have not paid teachers and we have already directed them to regularize the payment," she said.

According to the Minister, school teachers' quota will be revised and a taskforce has been formed to systematise the Early Childhood Education Development Programme.

As she said, the report submitted by the Tribhuvan University's Land and Property Search Commission is still incomplete despite the extension of its term twice. She added that clause-wise deliberations on the Bill have been completed.

Committee member Sumana Shrestha called for working to increase the charm of teaching profession and guaranteeing the regular payment to teachers.

Another member Gyanu Basnet Subedi advocated for implementing the free education provision effectively.

It is said a total of 109 amendments have been proposed in regard with the Bill.
