Who needs a tap? Bharatpur’s Telecom pipe delivers water!

Chitwan, November 5 — Water has been continuously flowing from a Nepal Telecom pipe installed in the middle of the road in front of the Bharatpur Metropolitan Office on the East-West Highway, prompting technical teams to search for the source of the leak. The water has been leaking since before Dashain, causing damage to the road, and it is now suspected that the water may be coming from an underground source.

Engineer Shila Neupane from the Chitwan Division Road Office confirmed that water was coming from a pipe laid by Nepal Telecom. Initially, it was thought that the leak might be from a ruptured underground water source, but upon excavation, it was found that the water was coming from the Telecom pipe.

She explained, "It’s possible that water from a burst water pipeline or another source may have entered the Telecom pipe. Otherwise, how could water flow from a pipe meant for laying cables?" Since the exact point where the water entered the Telecom pipe could not be identified, the issue remains unresolved. She added that the Drinking Water Board has been contacted, and a meeting with representatives from the Drinking Water, Telecom, Division Road Office, and the construction company is underway to find a solution.

The road expansion work between Narayangadh and Gondraang is being carried out by Indo Sagun Construction Company. Engineer Sunil Dhungana from the company said they have been unable to identify the exact cause of the water leakage, which has prevented repairs. "We cannot say for sure where the water is coming from or how much damage has been caused to the road. We have informed the road division," he said.

Following the road damage in the busy area of Bharatpur, the Bharatpur Metropolitan City has repeatedly urged the Division Road Office and the construction company to address the issue promptly. Mayor Renu Dahal stated, "We requested immediate repairs before Dashain, but there have been delays due to technical reasons."
