Cyclone Dana's effects reach Nepal: Rain in some regions

Kathmandu, October 25 — The effects of the Dana cyclone that developed in the Bay of Bengal are being felt in Nepal as well. Some areas of Koshi Province have experienced rain, while there are clouds over Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati Provinces.

Although the cyclone has had a significant impact in India's Odisha and West Bengal, it is located far enough from Nepal that only minor effects are being observed here. According to meteorologist Govinda Jha from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, its influence in Nepal will begin to diminish from today.

Jha noted, “A low-pressure system formed in the vicinity of the Bay of Bengal has gradually moved inland. As the cyclone moves slowly from the sea to the land, its effects will gradually decrease. Currently, the cyclone is in a weakened state, and its impact will diminish starting today.”

He explained that there are clouds in Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati Provinces, and the cyclone’s influence is decreasing. He stated, “Although there has been rain in some areas of Koshi Province, the cyclone is somewhat distant from Nepal, so its effects are only partial.”

Jha added, “While the monsoon has ended, localized winds and westerly winds will still bring rain in some places.”
