Traffic resumes along Katari-Ghurmi roadway
Udayapur, October 12 — The blocked Siddhicharan Highway's Katari-Ghurmi road in Udayapur has reopened following landslides. The road, which was obstructed by landslides in Bhadaure, located in Katari Municipality-14, has resumed operation from today.
Kamal Bajgain, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the Katari Area Police Office, confirmed the road's reopening. "After relentless efforts until last night, the road has been cleared," he said. "We coordinated with the road office in Harkapur, Okhaldhunga, and brought in a large loader to clear the road."
Despite removing some landslides, debris continued to fall from above, delaying the road's reopening. "As of this morning, landslides were still occurring from above, but through continuous efforts, the road is now operational," DSP Bajgain added.
The blockage of this road section caused problems for travelers from eastern cities in Koshi Province heading to the hilly districts of Khotang, Okhaldhunga, and Solukhumbu, as well as those coming from the hilly districts to the Terai region. With the road now open, vehicles have started to move again, as informed by Ambar Bahadur Magar, the ward chair of Katari-14.
Employees of the Mirchaiya-Katari-Ghurmi Road Project, police, and others worked until Friday night to restore the road. According to police, they worked around the clock to reopen the road after travelers were stranded during the Dashain festival.
