Honorary Nepali Consulate in Lisbon shuts down

Kathmandu: The Honorary Nepali Consulate in Lisbon, Portugal, has been officially closed.

This decision follows the Nepalese government’s appointment of an ambassador to Portugal.

The Nepali Ministry of Foreign Affairs initially established the honorary consulate in Lisbon in March 2014. It was elevated to Consulate General status in July 2020.

Makar Bahadur Hamal, the Honorary Nepali Consul General, announced that the consulate's operations have ceased due to an informal notification that his tenure has ended and will not be extended.

He added that with the recent appointment of an ambassador for Portugal and instructions from the Nepali Embassy in Paris to halt operations, the consulate has officially closed as of today.

All services previously offered have been discontinued.

The Cabinet has already recommended Prakashmani Paudel as the new ambassador to Portugal.
