ICC President Barclay meets with PM Dahal to discuss cricket development in Nepal
KATHMANDU: President of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Greg Barclay, extended a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' on Wednesday, as confirmed by the Prime Minister's Secretariat.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar, served as a platform to discuss avenues for advancing cricket development in Nepal and addressing relevant issues.
During the discussion, Prime Minister Dahal acknowledged the significance of Barclay's visit, emphasizing the importance of the ICC's engagement in Nepal's cricket landscape.
He apprised Barclay of Nepal's prioritization of constructing a cricket stadium and other necessary infrastructure.
"The upcoming U-19 Women's World Cup in 2027 holds immense importance for the Nepal government. We eagerly anticipate the ICC's invaluable support in realizing this objective," remarked Prime Minister Dahal.
In response, ICC President Barclay reassured the ICC's dedication to bolstering cricket development in Nepal, affirming the organization's commitment to the nation's cricketing aspirations.
The meeting witnessed the presence of Government Chief Secretary Dr. Baikuntha Aryal and representatives from the Cricket Association of Nepal, underscoring the collaborative efforts between the government and cricket stakeholders to propel the sport's growth and accessibility in Nepal.
