25th Flora Expo commences in Kathmandu
KATHMANDU: The eagerly anticipated 25th edition of the Flora Expo kicked off at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu on Thursday.
Organized jointly by the Floriculture Association of Nepal and the Floriculture Development Centre, the Expo is scheduled to run until March 17.
Min Bahadur Tamang, Chairman of the Association, revealed that the Expo boasts a total of 73 stalls, comprising 60 commercial stalls, three dedicated to landscaping, eight official stalls, and others.
Anticipation runs high among organizers, with an expected turnout of approximately 50,000 visitors and projected business transactions amounting to Rs 10 million during the Expo.
The Association proudly announced that Nepal has achieved self-sufficiency in flower production across most seasons, with the exception of the Tihar festival period.
Driven by escalating demand, flower production and cultivation have expanded to encompass 43 districts nationwide, including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kaski, Chitwan, Makawanpur, Kavre, Gulmi, Palpa, Dhading, Morang, among others.
Nepal boasts an impressive array of 450 species of flowers, contributing to an annual market worth exceeding Rs 3 billion in this flourishing industry.
