19th Asian Games: Nepal secures first medal

KATHMANDU, Oct 6: Nepal has finally been successful in bagging a medal in the ongoing 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Nepal received a bronze medal in the women's kabaddi.

In the semifinal, Nepal was defeated by India in the women's kabaddi, thereby being limited to the bronze medal. India defeated Nepal with 61-17 points. 

Nepal had entered the semifinal as the first runner-up under group 'B'. Similarly, India had entered the semifinal being the winner of the group 'A'.

All four teams playing seminal in kabaddi are entitled to medals.

It is the first time Nepal participated in the Asian Games under women's kabaddi.

Group 'B' has Iran and Bangladesh as well. As a winner of group 'B', Iran got entry to the semifinal. Now, it is playing with the first runner-up of the group 'A', Chinese Taipei. 

The players in the Nepali team are Menuka Kumari Rajbanshi (captain), Manmati Bista, Jayanti Badu, Sunita Thapa, Rabina Chaudhari, Anuja Kulung Rai, Ganga Rai, Nitu Gurung, Isha Rai, Arpana Chaudhari, Sirjana Tharu and Kalawati Pant. The team instructor is Bishnu Datt Bhatta.
