India issues advisory to nationals in Canada

NEW DELHI: Indians in Canada have been advised to exercise extreme caution and remain vigilant in view of the growing anti-India activities, hate crimes and criminal violence.

"Recently, threats have particularly targeted Indian diplomats and sections of the Indian community who oppose the anti-India agenda. Indian nationals are therefore advised to avoid travelling to regions and potential venues in Canada that have seen such incidents," the advisory issued on Wednesday stated.

It was issued after Canadian PM Justin Trudeau on Tuesday said there was 'credible evidence' India was responsible for the alleged assassination of Khalistani leader Nijjar.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was wanted in India, was gunned down outside a gurdwara in a parking area in Canada's Surrey on June 18.

"Our High Commission/Consulates General will continue to be in contact with the Canadian authorities to ensure the safety and well being of the Indian community in Canada," the advisory mentioned.
