Nurse Lucy Letby sentenced to life for killing babies

UNITED KINGDOM, Aug 21: Nurse Lucy Letby has been sentenced to life. She was given a whole life term, with no chance of parole, for the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six more.

"This was a cruel, calculated and cynical campaign of child murder involving the smallest and most vulnerable of children," the judge said, "You checked up on parents. There was a deep malevolence bordering on sadism."

"You have no remorse... there are no mitigating factors... the offences are of sufficient severity to require a whole life order."

Letby refused to appear in court to hear her sentence. English Prime Minister Rishi Sunak confirmed that the government is planning to change the law that compels convicts to attend their sentence.

This morning, one mother said the murder of her son was "like something out of a horror story". Other parents said their surviving children, whom Letby attempted to murder, are now disabled with brain problems.

Just three other women have ever been given whole life terms in English history - Myra Hindley, Rosemary West, and Joanna Dennehy.
