You will soon be able to make video calls on X (Twitter)

X (formerly Twitter) is currently undergoing a transition where Elon Musk is making some big changes, and adding new features and tools. Twitter’s blue bird has been replaced with the symbol ‘X’, and tweets and retweets are now posts and reposts. Among the upcoming updates, video calling has been confirmed to arrive on X soon.

Twitter was never big on messaging as it focused more on the home feed. It also rarely introduced new features for DMs on Twitter. But X is now planning to bring video calls. In an interview with CNBC, X CEO Linda Yaccarino mentioned the arrival of video calling on the platform.

“Experiences and evolution into long-form video and articles, subscribe to your favorite creators, who are now earning a real living on the platform. You look at video, and soon you’ll be able to make video chat calls without having to give your phone number to anyone on the platform,” Yaccarino was quoted as saying in the interview.

This was later confirmed through a post by X designer Andrea Conway. An image showing the possible UI of video calling on X was shared by Conway.

The upcoming feature is part of Musk’s plan to turn the platform into an “everything” app. The platform will be “the future state of unlimited interactivity – centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities.”
