Meeting between three main parties’ top leaders with Speaker begins

KATHMANDU, Aug 7: The meeting of the top leaders of the three main parties called by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire has started at the Speaker’s office in Singha Darbar. Speaker Ghimire is holding discussions with the top leaders of the Nepali Congress, CPN UML and CPN Maoist Center in order to remove the obstruction of the Parliament.

Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, President of the Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba, and the Chairman of the main opposition CPN UML KP Sharma Oli are present in the meeting with their chief whips and whips.

In the House of Representatives meeting on July 26, UML obstructed the meeting demanding a high-level inquiry committee on the gold scandal. Due to UML's stand, the next two meetings were also postponed with notice.

On July 31 and August 1, the Speaker had telephone conversations with the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition party. The Speaker's Secretariat said that they have discussed more than 6 times with the chief whips and whips of the main parties at various levels.

The leaders on Sunday suggested to the Speaker during discussion with the chief whips at Singha Darbar, that a meeting should be held at the level of the top leaders to clear the obstruction of the House.
