Koshi Province government collapses by Supreme Court's decree

KATHMANDU, July 27: The Supreme Court has ruled the formation of the Koshi Province government as unconstitutional. The court cancelled the appointment of Uddhav Thapa as the Chief Minister of the Koshi Province by the order of impeachment.

In addition, the court has also given a mandate for the formation of a new government in Koshi Province. A new Chief Minister will be appointed within the 2nd of August per the Supreme Court's mandate.

A writ petition was filed in the Supreme Court on July 7 on behalf of former Chief Minister and UML Parliamentary Party leader Hikmat Kumar Karki, alleging that Congress Parliamentary Party leader Uddhav Thapa was unconstitutionally appointed Chief Minister.

Karki filed a writ petition against the Provincial Chief Parshuram Khapung, Chief Minister Thapa, and Speaker Baburam Gautam, saying that the signature of Speaker Gautam was also used for the formation of the government. In the writ petition, Karki has also requested the order to appoint himself as the Chief Minister.
