FIFA Women’s World Cup: Spain and Japan reach knockout stage

KATHMANDU, July 26: in the 9th FIFA Women’s World Cup, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, both Spain and Japan have reached the knockout stage, after respective wins in the matches held on Wednesday. 

In today’s matches, Japan defeated Costa Rica 2-0, while Spain defeated Zambia 5-0. Both Spain and Japan have reached the pre-quarterfinal from Group ‘C’ as the first two teams to reach the knockout stage. 

All four teams in Group ‘C’ have played two games in the group stage, and both Spain and Japan have won both matches. Both the winning teams have made 6 points. Japan, in its first match, defeated Zambia 5-0, while Spain defeated Costa Rica 2-0.

Hikaru Naomoto and Aoba Fujino scored one goal each in today’s match against Costa Rica, while Teresa Abelleira scored one, and Jennifer Hermoso and Alba Redondo both scored two goals each, making five goals for Spain.
