Japan scores 5 goals in dominant win over Zambia
HAMILTON, July 22: Japan blows out debutants Zambia in their first game of the Women's World Cup by 5-0 goals.
Hinata Miyazawa was the leading scorer of the game with 2 goals, one in the 43rd minute of the first half and one in the second half at the 62nd-minute mark.
Mina Tanaka also scored a goal in the 55th minute between the two Miyazawa goals. Jun Endo added a fourth at 71 minutes of the second half.
Zambia goalkeeper Catherine Musonda was sent off for conceding a late penalty in the additional time of the second half.
Her replacement Eunice Sakala saved Riko Ueki's penalty but was ruled to have come off her line and the Japan striker slotted home the second effort.
Japan stands at the top of Group C standings, above Spain on goal difference.
