India announces to buy 10 thousand MW electricity from Nepal

KATHMANDU, June 1: Indian President Narendra Modi has announced to buy 10 thousand MW of electricity from Nepal in the next 10 years. Modi made this announcement in Hyderabad House during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’s visit to India.

Nepal prioritized the topic of electricity trade during the visit. During this visit, Nepal wanted to sign an agreement to sell 10 thousand MW of electricity in the next 25 years.

There was no long-term agreement to open the Nepalese electricity market in India. However, PM Modi announced to buy 10 thousand MW of electricity in the next 10 years. Although the agreement has not been signed, this deal will be the biggest electricity deal of Nepal if the purchase is included in the joint statement.
