Ram Sahay Yadav's vice presidential candidacy retained by Election Commission
KATHMANDU, March 12: The Election Commission has decided to retain the candidacy of Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, a vice-presidential candidate from the Janata Samajbadi Party, after quashing two complaints lodged against him.
Soon after Yadav filed his candidacy on Saturday, Asta Laxmi Shakya of CPN-UML had filed a complaint maintaing that Yadav is unqualified for the post as the President and the Vice President cannot be of the same gender.
However, the election officer concluded that legal provisions don't require the President and Vice President to be of different genders.
The Election Commission had earlier stated that only female candidates from specific communities would be registered for the vice-presidential election. A total of four candidates, including Yadav, have registered their nominations for the election scheduled for March 17.
