Kanchanpur health post facing shortage of chemicals used to detect TB bacteria

Kanchanpur, A health post at Pipaladi in the district is is in short supply of chemicals (methylene blue, sulfuric acid) used to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria to diagnosis tuberculosis.
As a result, people visiting the health centre for a test for TB are forced to return empty-handed, said the health post's lab technician Basanta Dhami.
"Average 10 to 12 people visit the health institution on a daily basis for a TB test. We ask them to visit other health facilities for want of the chemicals to detect the bacteria," he said.
Besides, the health post is also struggling to cater to patients for want of the medicines provided by the government for free.
Out of 72 types of medicines the government provides for free, the health facility is making do with only a few of them, he said.
