19,012 COVID-19 cases, 168 deaths reported last week

KATHMANDU, July 24: With prohibitory orders being relaxed following the peak level of the second wave of the coronavirus disease, Nepal has been reporting a rise in the day-wise case count in the past few days. 

According to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), as many as 1,9012 new cases were added to the COVID-19 casetally of the country last wek-- from Sunday to Saturday. 

Nepal reported the highest number of daily case-count on Tuesday (3,123) followed by Saturday (3,114) and Friday (2,977). While the lowest case count of 1,801 on Sunday, the country witnessed 2,445 cases on Monday, 2,714 on Thursday and 2,838 on Wednesday, earlier last week. 

According to the data, labs across the country carried out a total of 92,090 tests [including both RT-PCR and antigen tests] in the past seven days with an infection rate of nearly 21 percent. The highest positivity rate [23.77 percent] on Tuesday.  

Officials in the ministry shared that 168 people succumbed to the fatal disease this week with highest fatalities (30) on Wednesday. 

Meanwhile, 11,158 people got over the illness last week.
