KATHMANDU, June 10: The Supreme Court (SC)on Thursday issued an interim order in the name of the government not to implement the Citizenship Ordinance-2021.

Hearing on the writ petitions registered at the apex court against the Ordinance, which was issued by President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, a Constitutional Bench headed by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana said that implementation of ordinance can not be judicially justified.

After President Bhandari issued the Ordinance on Citizenship on May 23, a day after she dissolved the lower House of parliament, a total of six writ petitions were registered at the Supreme Court (SC)  claiming that the ordinance does not go in line with the spirit of the Constitution of Nepal.
