NATHM studying ethnic cuisine


KATHMANDU, April 23: Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM) has established its name by producing skilled human resources in tourism industry. It has imparted quality and job-oriented training to 54,000 people. Similarly, 2,000 have been graduated under the educational programmes of NATHM.

Established nearly 50 years back and taken affiliation from Tribhuvan University, the NATHM has been providing education up to masters' level and conducting research too, according to Director Dipak Kumar Thapa.

It has expanded its presence in Jhapa, Mahottari and Banke as well and conducting more than 50 long and short term training and educational programmes. Training as hospitality, travel agency, cooking, ticket booking are provided by it. 

Similarly other trainings are- trekking guide, homestay, lodge management, cuisine and food quality, and security to tourists. More than 540 students are enrolled at different educational programmes, it shared information. Importantly, 95 percent workforce produced from NATHM has been able to secure job.

Director Thapa further informed that the human resources produced by NATHM were employed in various countries in Europe and Asia. 

Now, it has forwarded a new programme on study of ethnic cuisine and production of trained human resources on these. It is studying the cuisines from all 77 districts and all ethnic communities.  Even a food bank or museum would be established in the Kathmandu Valley. 

Pudding made of millet is a new dish in the NATHM menu these days.
