Kathmandu–The government survey team has successfully scaled Mount Everest, world's highest peak, at 3:00 am today.
Survey Department's chief survey officer Khimlal Gautam and officer Rabin Karki reached atop the Mt Everest and fixed an equipment of Global Navigation Satellite System at a point around the summit, said Department's Mount Everest Measurement Project coordinator Sushil Dangol.
The Department had sent the team accompanied by other two employees Suraj Singh Bhandari and Yubraj Dhital and Sherpa guides to (re) measure the height of Everest on its own in the aftermath of the general assumption that Everest's height got shrunk after the 2015 April earthquake.
Bhandari and Dhital are at the Everest base camp to assist the team to take the new measurement of the peak The expedition is challenging and the team is expected to return Kathmandu by Friday if weather permits.
According to Dangol, it will take around six months for the team to come up with the findings of the project. ---
