Art and literature is powerful for prosperity: DPM Pokharel

Kathmandu–Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Ishwor Pokharel, has said that role of art and literature would be significant to materialize national goal, 'Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali'.

At the inaugural of ninth National Fine Arts Exhibition organised by Nepal Academy of Fine Arts here today, Deputy Prime Minister said that there would be crucial contribution of language, art and literature for civilization and recognition of any country, adding that these things played powerful role in nation building.

Expecting that the expo would help get Nepal's art and culture recognized in international arena from more closer, he said, "There is role of art and literature in the prosperity as it makes the overall life qualitative, not only the development of the country."

The DPM also expressed commitment that the government would support for the development of Academy as it has made notable contribution in development and expansion of art sector by organising relevant programmes.

RSS Chief Editor honoured On the occasion, Chief Editor of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Shyam Prasad Rimal, has been honoured with Fine Arts Journalism Award.

The award carries a purse of Rs 25,000. Rimal was awarded for his contribution to the fine art sector through journalism and literature for the past two decades.

Similarly, National Araniko Fine Arts Academy Award was presented to senior artist Chinkaji Tamrakar and Ratan Kumar Rai. A total of 37 artists and litterateurs were honoured on the occasion.

Academy Chancellor KK Karmacharya said that the government should give additional priority to art and literature sector. A total of 453 paintings have been put on display in the three-week expo. ---
