Wildfires engulfing Doti forests yet to be contained

Doti–Wildfires sweeping some community and leasehold forests in the district are yet to be tamed. Around 745 hectares of forestland has been destroyed in the wildfires in the past one month, said the division forest office, Doti.

Wildfires have been engulfing approximately 50 forests (45 community forests, two leasehold and other government) in the district, said assistant forest officer Suresh Chandra DC, adding that efforts are underway to douse the fires.

Medicinal herbs and timber worth thousands of rupees have been burnt down in the fires, said Dhir Bahadur Malla, member of the Raniban community forest users group at Jorayal rural municipality. ---
