Minister Thapa and Acting Deputy Assistant Secy Ranz meet

Kathmandu– A meeting was held between Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa and Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Bureau of South Asia and Central Asia Affairs, the US Department of State, David J. Ranz today.

Issues such as Nepal-USA ties, mutual cooperation and collaboration between the two countries figured prominently in the discussion held during the meeting held at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singha Durbar.

Minister Thapa, extending gratitude for the American support in the fields of Nepal’s development, disaster management and the training to security agencies and construction of physical infrastructures, expressed his belief that such cooperation would be extended in the days ahead.

Thapa opined that visit of the Nepal’s Foreign Minister’s to the USA few months ago and the agreements signed during that course had played an important role in taking the Nepal-US ties to a new height.

Sharing that Nepal had entered into a rapid economic development in the wake of political stability in the country, the Minister called upon the American government and its people for their cooperation towards this end.

Minister Thapa viewed that the financial support extended by the American government to Nepal through ‘Millennium Challenge Corporation’ would be very important for Nepal’s economic development and electrification works.

The visiting Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary Ranz, in response, spoke of the need for the USA-Nepal to scale further height. Informing about the American government’s support to Nepal in the sectors of physical infrastructure, education, health, disaster management, tackling human trafficking, he pledged to give continuity to the American support to Nepal.

Ranz had floated the matter relating to the extension of visa for the American Peace Corp volunteers coming to Nepal and how America could support Nepal in upscaling its immigration system. Ranz was accompanied by American ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry in the meeting. ---
