Forest fire in Chure region continues

Kanchanpur–National forest area spreading on around 1,200 hectares of land along the Chure region in Kanchanpur is at risk of destruction due to a fire broke out in the north since last month.

The Division Forest Office, Kanchanpur, stated that the forest area spreading from Brahmadev of Bhimdutta municipality to Bedkot of Bedkot municipality has caught fire which has inflicted damages on ecology as well, Office ranger Shiba Raj Awasthi said. Forest area in the district covers the total 78,797 hectares of land.

Cases of forest fire are frequent in the dry season as a slight negligence can result in it. Presently, the fire has caught around 1,200 hectares of forest area.

Forest employees and local users are working to take the fire under control. Geographical remoteness has posed challenges in taking the fire under control, according to ranger Awasthi.

However, it is expected to come under control soon. Few days ago, the fire erupted in Shuklaphanta National Park had already brought under control. There are a total of 139 community forests in Kanchanpur. ---
