Breakthrough made in Bheri-Babai tunnel construction

Surkhet–A breakthrough has been made in construction of the tunnel of the Bheri Babai Multipurpose Diversion Project (BBDMP) in presence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today. The BBDMP is classified as the ‘project of national pride’ of the government.

The tunnel construction works were undertaken with a help of a TBM by the Chinese-based company China Engineering Overseas Group Co Ltd (COVEC) for the first time in Nepal. It completed the works before a year of the deadline.

The works had begun in mid-November 2017. The tunnel starts from Hattikhal, the bank of Babai River and ends at Chiple, the bank of Bheri River.

Prime Minister arrived here today is scheduled to visit Sikta Irrigation Project today itself. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Barshaman Pun, Chief Minister of state 1, Shanker Pokharel, Chief Minister of Karnali state, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Hou Yanqi, were also present on the occasion. ---
