Pepsicola-Sallaghari road expansion at snail pace

Kathmandu– The Pepsicola-Sallaghari road project has recorded a meager physical progress just 10 percent in around the past two years of the agreement of the project.

The Kathmandu Valley Road Improvement Project said the project's progress was minimal as physical infrastructures along the road sides (which need to be cleared to implement the project) are yet to be removed.

According to project engineer Bishwa Bijay Lal Shrestha, several infrastructure including private houses at Bahakha Bazar need to be demolished to implement the project from Bahakha Bazaar to Sallaghari.

Locals are demanding the compensation for their houses and land as well and the authority concerned has not yet guaranteed the compensation for land to be covered by the road widening project.

Despite efforts from the local representatives to pave the way for implementing the project, it has not been possible as the locals are demanding for compensation collectively.

The contract agreement for the 4.5-kilometer road was made in June-July 2017. The agreement term is ending next year. Though the Kathmandu Valley project has started the 11 road improvement projects- five each in Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts and one in Bhaktapur - the progress is limited.
