KMC dwells on sustainability challenges of full vaccination

Kathmandu– The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has taken inability for maintaining updated database of inbound and outbound migrant families as a big challenge for sustainability of full immunization. 

A meeting of the KMC Vaccination Coordination Committee on Tuesday concluded that failure in maintaining up-to-date data of children of low-income families residing in the capital and the families coming to Kathmandu from abroad has posed a serious challenge to the campaign for full immunization. 

Local people’s representatives have stressed the need to explore effective methods for mobilising volunteers for data collection in order to make the vaccination campaign a success. 

It was shared that the meeting dwelt on several agendas, including operation of effective and quality immunization service, annual households’ survey, review, micro planning updates, certification of full immunization and reporting. 

Nepal had initiated full immunization assurance programme since 2014. As part of this initiative, Nepal has so far declared 35 districts as fully immunized districts. KMC had made commitment for full immunization metropolis last year. 
The 2014 Nepal Health and Population Survey had revealed that total 17 percent children were deprived of immunization service across the country and 3 percent children were not administered any type of vaccination. ---
