Beni municipality slashes property tax

Galeswor– Myagdi district’s only municipality Beni has slashed the rates of integrated property tax by reviewing its earlier decision.

The municipality has decided to reduce the tax rates with mounting pressure from the public. With the decrease in tax rates, the locals now are happy. A meeting of the municipal executive had determined new criteria and limitations to settle the dispute on property and land tax and to address public grievances on the increment of taxation.

The municipality used to slap tax based on its criteria assessing 30 per cent of the motorway-connected land as land for housing and 70 percent as cultivable land. The practice has been scrapped with the new decision of the executive.

According to the new assessment standards, the local government would slap property tax to the structures built in up to a ropani land and remaining as cultivable land, said municipality spokesperson Ram Krishna Baraili.

“The complaints of municipal people have been taken into consideration while revisiting the tax rates. The new assessment would give a relief to the locals”, he added. ---
