Nuwakot school works out novel idea to attract students

Betrawati, Nuwakot– A government school at Dupcheshwor Rural Municipality-1 in Nuwakot has hit on a novel idea to attract students.

It has been distributing saplings of vegetables and fruits for free to the poor indigenous and Dalit parents being unable to send their children to school due to poverty.

The drive aims to provide the parents with the means of earning money by distributing fruit saplings, said assistant head teacher Prem Syangtang.

Two fruit and vegetable saplings ranging from that of grape, kiwi, plum and persimmon are provided to parents of each student. The village is geographically disadvantaged and lack basic facilities like road and health.

The only school in the village that runs classes up to grade nine has a total of 305 students. Nearby school is hours away.
