Call for increased investment for tourism promotion

Rupandehi–Experts have called for increased investment in the tourism sector to exploit the huge potential of Buddhist tourism in Nepal. 


Speaking at a day-long seminar organized by the Lumbini Buddhist University in Lumbini on Saturday, they said Buddhist philosophy was the foundation of Nepal’s tourism, and hence it needs to be promoted. 


Vice-chair of the Lumbini Development Trust Bhikshu Metteya said the government should come up with an appropriate policy to increase investment in Buddhist tourism in the country. “India has invested a project worth 40 billion rupees in Buddhist tourism, and that has led to economic progress,” he said. 


Dean of the University Manik Ratna Shakya also called for a concrete government plan to expand Buddhist philosophy while Chief of the Campus Fanindra Neupane stressed on support and collaboration of all to the University to further promote Buddhist philosophy. 


Tourism entrepreneur Hem Bista stressed on the need to come up with programmes to increase the stay of tourists in Lumbini.
